X Factor- The Semi Final

Motown / Own choice

Misha B

“Dancing In The Street” – I was really under enthused by this, I was quite bored. I’m starting to tire of the twang which leaves her as a bit of a caricature of herself, you know like her own parody? I really like this song but it’s hardly a semi-final smash hit, more of a jovial type of song choice with lame attempts at choreography and probably led to her down fall. Well not just that, probably the fact that the public don’t like her!

“Perfect” – I enjoyed this song much better than the first, more of a semi-final performance than the first. I like when she actually sings a song that doesn’t necessarily leave room for her to throw in unnecessary adlibs. It slipped towards the end of the song, where she went off the melody in an attempt to be original but it was just a bit messy for me.

Amelia Lily

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Brilliant! I love this because it reminds me of Sister Act 2, boss! She’s got a fantastic voice, like brilliant. I think the stage production really let the performance down, but that didn’t matter thankfully because it didn’t detract away from her vocal at all. The choir was a good choice at the end and added the drama that it needed. Well done Amelia!!

“I’m With You” – This was a really good song choice for Amelia Lily and they have been consistently so, I think. This worked on the subtle parts of the song, but the belting parts of the song were really “shouty”. What I love about Amelia Lily is that she put so much strong drama into the performance and you can really feel the mood of the song, which is a skill all on its own. Well done!!

Little Mix

“You Keep Me Hangin’ On” – I love our Little Mix (I know I’m probably boring you all with this by now, but I don’t care!) I have to say I really felt the nerves from them with this song. It was a bit like they struggled with the static nature of the choreography for the song given it was an upbeat one. There was a little loss of lyrics, but good recovery. I still maintain they have grown so much throughout the competition more than any act. I don’t know why Gary is fixated on identifying a lead singer, they’re all great vocally, leave it Gary. Things have moved on……

“If I Were A Boy” – I’m not sure that this song was a good choice for them! I’ve no doubt that this would sound amazing in a nice rehearsal room, but always so different to sing for a live performance. The subtle parts of the song were the weakest, but the belt parts were amazing I thought. They have a place in the UK charts and I for one are hoping they’re riding high!

Marcus Collins

“My Girl” – I really didn’t like this song choice and found it a bit cliché; a real bug bear of mine with the last few song choices. We had MUCH better song choices earlier on in the competition. I found the vocal flat in parts and a little dull, sorry Marcus. Get back to what you sang well, get more contemporary!!!

“Can You Feel It” – In brief, no I couldn’t! This should have been epic, but it really wasn’t. I love this song and this requires a strong vocal from start to finish and it deliver for me. I’m not sure whether this was too low key for him? I do know he was struggling with his throat this week, which I know wasn’t reported in the press, which to his credit he didn’t whinge about. I have to say again, PLEASE go back to contemporary. The songs in the first two weeks of the live shows were brilliant, go back there!

THE RESULTS SHOW

Group song

“Hold On” – LOVE this song, muy mucho! What’s nice is to hear more of the finalists of how their voices sound in studio recording. I have to say, for me Marcus and Amelia Lily sounded amazing!

Justin Bieber – “Mistletoe”

This child annoys me no end, what is worse is we all know that anyone who does a Christmas song, is doomed to be played FOREVER and I don’t know if I have the strength to hear this playing in the shops at Christmas from now til I die. I already have shopping rage at this time of year, but this could result in me throwing myself under a pile of “Build A Bear” and suffocating myself to death. That’s about it really!

Kelly Rowland – “When Love Takes Over / Down For Whatever”

Well, she’s no Beyonce but she’s got game…………... I give the girl that.

PUBLIC VOTE

Misha B received the lowest public vote…………. SHOCK HORROR

“Who You Are”

I really like her version of the song and sang it better than her predecessor last week, Miss Jessie J! It was really like this song was written for her and this shows when she performs her. I hope the show gives her the platform she wants though, wish her well.
Can’t believe we’re at the final of X Factor 2011!!!

WHO WILL BE YOUR WINNER???
